Jaxx wallet recovery starts with the recovery phrase, a private-key backup or usable data from the original installation. Jaxx Liberty stopped operating in 2023. Old balances remain recorded on their blockchains; a retired application does not erase them.
Avoid fake Jaxx recovery websites
Exodus warns that the former Jaxx wallet and website are no longer operational and that replacement sites claiming to be Jaxx may steal recovery phrases. Use the official Exodus warning and recovery guidance. Do not enter your phrase into a website advertising a Jaxx migration or wallet validation.
If you have the recovery phrase
- Check which assets, networks and known addresses you used.
- Choose a maintained wallet whose documented recovery process supports those assets and the required derivation paths.
- Restore through that wallet’s official process on a trusted device.
- Compare the recovered addresses and transaction history with your records.
BIP39 compatibility alone does not guarantee that a wallet will display every Jaxx account or token. Asset support, network selection, address derivation and account scanning also matter. See our guide to wallet backup standards.
If an asset is missing after restoration
Confirm that you restored the correct phrase and enabled the correct network. Some supported assets must be enabled manually; an unsupported asset will not necessarily appear. Check the wallet developer’s current support documentation, such as Exodus’s asset settings. An empty display alone does not prove the original funds were lost.
If only the old device or files remain
Preserve the original installation, app data and device backups before changing anything. Storage locations and encryption differ between Jaxx versions and platforms. A guessed filename is not proof that a file contains usable keys, and a recovery tool must support the actual format.
On Android, private app storage is sandboxed. Enabling USB debugging does not generally allow an ordinary file manager or adb pull to read another app’s private data. Android’s storage guidance also explains that uninstalling an app removes its internal files. Do not uninstall, factory-reset or unlock a bootloader while the device may hold your only backup.
Can a partial phrase or forgotten password be recovered?
Sometimes a limited search is feasible when enough words, positions or password clues remain. A known public address helps validate candidates but cannot recreate a private key by itself. If the phrase, private keys and usable device data are all gone, there may be no recovery route. An assessment cannot guarantee recovery.
